And it will be interesting to see and find out what we can do, if we can influence and make our voices heard and maybe even make a difference. I do hope so!

Right now I am sitting on Arlanda airport in Stockholm, waiting to board the flight to Frankfurt and from there we, Kristina and me, go to New York.

What we do in New York that is worth writing a blog entry about here?

United Nations!

The UN is holding is annual Commission on the Status of Women (CSW57) in New York and this year’s topic is the elimination of all forms of violence against women. On 8th of March we will even hold a Parallel Event (see page 55).

IOGT International has from its very beginning been about equality and freedom and so CSW57 is an important opportunity for us to contribute with our perspective on what must be done to improve the situation of women around the world, to end gender-based violence and to foster gender equality.

For me the whole trip is a dream come true.

Since I discovered my interest in philosophy and political science, I have been studying the United Nations. I have looked at its predecessor the League of Nations and dove into the philosophy behind United Nations. I think it is a beautiful institution, based on a beautiful idea – unity beyond borders.

And those of you who visit my blog here know that NYC is my dream, too. So you can imagine that I am very happy and excited right now, despite the early hour, despite the lack of sleep in the recent days, despite all the things that are left to do. I am incredibly thankful to IOGT for giving me this opportunity and I am actually honoured to be part of the work for Women’s Rights and gender equality that started in IOGT more than 160 years ago.

Now I am on the way to New York.

And it will be interesting to see and find out what we can do, if we can influence and make our voices heard and maybe even make a difference. I do hope so!

It will also be interesting to experience the United Nations in real life, in real time. Now I am on the way on yet another journey to go beyond borders.
