IOGT means Life Set Free. We promote the lifestyle of the 21st century with our own lifestyle choices. The lifestyle of the 21st century is about living free from alcohol and other drugs. But it doesn’t stop there. A richer and freer lifestyle is not only about the absence of harmful substances and behaviors. A richer and freer life is also about how to endow it with meaning and live up to one’s full potential – it’s about dreams, opportunities, community, choices and commitment. That’s what we call Life Set Free.

The lifestyle of the 21st century is all about leading a self-determined life, a fulfilled life, a conscious and compassionate life and a healthy life – dedicated to making the world a better place through our own actions every day and in community with our fellow humans, locally and globally.

Lifestyle Of The 21st Century

Life Set FreeThe lifestyle of the 21st century is about living free from alcohol and other drugs.

Health promotion in the IOGT way, is about the community, because physical and social well being are closely intertwined: what can we do for the community and how can we positively impact the community? It’s about heart-driven commitment to play our part and to lead by example in order to inspire.

In IOGT International we believe that we realize our full potential only together, in the public realm shaping the world, not in the supermarket, alone, consuming the world.

In IOGT International, we believe that human beings are freer together than on their own.

We hold that human beings are freer as citizens in public squares than as consumers in private malls.

Living Drug Free

youth pictureLiving Drug Free is a prevention approach and program originally produced by the Swedish IOGT Guide and Scout Association (NSF).

The aim of the is to help youth leaders create safe and enabling environments, in which young people can feel empowered to make up their own minds on preferences, dreams and hopes, to form their own lifestyle choices and to develop self-esteem and self-confidence.

The Living Drug Free approach fosters critical thinking, team-spirit and compassion and independence.

Most parts of the material contain evaluation exercises of different kinds.

Norms not fears, empowerment not information

This prevention approach builds on the understanding that it is not the harm and hazards associated with alcohol and other drugs that young people need to learn about in order to choose a life free from drugs. Instead, we are convinced – and research backs up our conviction – that empowering, not scaring, youth, involving, not teaching, and building their capacities instead of preaching will provide all the tools and skills for young people to think independently and make healthy choices.

What does influence how children and young people make their choices are attitudes and values. This is why we must find ways to help young people make choices based on their own, individual convictions, and help them become aware of what these are and how they guide each and every choice one makes.

The Living Drug Free program offers a number of exciting activities
