The National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) said travellers in 2015 imported 72 million litres of alcohol. The amount was 7.7% lower compared to 2014.
For 100% alcohol, the amount fell by more than 4% to just over eight litres. Family Affairs and Social Services Minister Juha Rehula has welcomed the news that the amount of alcoholic beverages imported by travellers fell last year, saying:
One of our core alcohol policies is about how alcohol comes to Finland from abroad. It is positive news that [the amount fell].”
According to THL, all other categories of imports via travellers fell except for ciders and high-alcohol spirits. Imports of strong alcohols grew 7% and ciders over half a per cent. Imports of beers, in contrast, fell by 10%. The most changes were seen in the imports of fortified wines and mixed beverages, which were imported more than a million litres, posting a reduction of over 50% from the previous year.
Travellers imported nearly 51 million litres of brewery products, which was more than four million litres less than in the previous year.
