Tallink Silja with new measures to increase safety and security on-board its ferries. Tallink Silja – an Estonian shipping company currently operating Baltic Sea cruiseferries and ropax ships from Estonia to Finland, Estonia to Sweden, Latvia to Sweden and Finland to Sweden – has been concerned about recent cases of harassments and assaults on-board their ferries.

As part of their measures to increase safety and security on-baord, Tallink has started a long-term collaboration with “Night Shift” (“Nattskiftet”), an organization that works for everyone’s right to a safe nightlife.

“Nattskiftet” educates and trains volunteers (so called Night Buddies), a sober buddy during nightlife who is present to create safety and provide support, if needed.

Other measures Tallink is introducing to address alcohol-induced problems on its ferries are:

  1. No sale of alcohol in the duty-free shops of boats with students- and youth-crossings.
  2. Continued collaboration with the STAD project in Stockholm.
  3. Continued and regular training of service staff for responsible alcohol serving.
